SIZES
One size, 36 x 36” (91.5 x 91.5 cm)
MATERIALS NEEDED
Yarn:
Malabrigo Yarn Rios (100% merino; 210 yds/192 m per 100g skein); color Aguas; 6 skeins.
Recommended needles:
US #7 [4.5 mm] double-pointed needles, set of 5
US #7 [4.5 mm] circular needle, 16” long
US #7 [4.5 mm] circular needle, 24” long
Notions:
Stitch markers, cable needle, yarn needle, crochet hook in size 6 [4.0 mm] or size 7 [4.5 mm] for joining.
GAUGE
Exact gauge isn’t critical, but your blanket will turn out a different size if you don’t match the gauge below.
18 sts/30 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in Cable and Lace Pattern, blocked.
Each blocked square measures 12” [30.5 cm] on each side.
PATTERN NOTES
-Because the superwash yarn used in the pattern has a lot of memory, you may want to block each square a little larger than your intended finished width to allow for shrinking if using the recommended (or another superwash) yarn. The sample squares were blocked to 13” [33 cm] square and then settled to 12” [30.5 cm] after they dried.

SQUARES (Make 9):
With double-pointed needles, CO 8 sts. Divide sts evenly between four needles, join for knitting in the round, and pm to mark the beginning of the round.
Work Round 1 of the Cable and Lace Pattern four times from the chart or written instructions (once for the sts on each separate needle).
Continue working the Cable and Lace Pattern as set. When there are too many sts to fit comfortably on the double-pointed needles, switch to the 16” circular needle and place markers between each pattern repeat.
Switch to the 24” circular needle when there are too many sts to fit comfortably on the 16” circular.
When all 40 rounds of the Cable and Lace Pattern have been worked, you should have 164 sts—41 sts between each set of markers. Begin garter edging on next round.
Garter Edging
Round 1: [Pfb, p to 2 sts from marker, pfb, k1, sl m] four times. 8 sts increased.
Round 2: Knit all sts.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 three more times, then work Round 1 once more (5 garter ridges). 204 sts—51 sts between each set of markers.
BO loosely as follows: [K2togtbl, slip st you just made from the right hand needle back to the left hand needle] to end.
FINISHING
Wet block square to finished measurements (see Pattern Notes).
Join Squares
Hold two squares together with the RS together (RS facing inward). Starting at the corners, join squares together with slip stitch as follows: Insert crochet hook under the outer leg of one edge stitch and under the outer leg of the corresponding edge stitch on the second square.
Wrap yarn around hook and draw through both pieces. Insert hook into next edge sts in the same manner, wrap yarn around hook, and draw through both pieces and the loop around hook.
Continue in this manner until you reach the next corner.
Join the rest of the squares in the same way until you have a blanket that’s three squares wide and three squares high.
Block blanket again if desired.
